Edisto River Trip Oct 2010

Sleepy, Gusto and Helpdesk had another great trip on the Edisto river.  This last section started off with way too much development, however, a few miles down river we hit some of the best scenery so far on the river.  In a few places the river became pretty narrow and fast flowing with trees laying in the current we had to maneuver quickly at times to avoid those strainers.  The pictures below are in order from put in to take out.

Capers Island October 15, 2010

Gusto, Helpdesk, Sleepy and Hiking Geer made a trip out to Capers Island. The weather was perfect on the trip out to the island.  However, later in the day the wind picked up and that made the trip back a bit more of a challenge.
Here is the trip from Every Trail:

Helpdesk Makes a Trip to Mt. Rainier

Well, business took me out to the north west but a can’t miss opportunity took me to Mt. Rainier.  When you are in Seattle you are too close to miss out on a good thing.  So here are a few shots.  The trip was a hampered by rain as one would expect in this part of the country.  But we did see some snow so it was worth it.

Riverbead

You may not be able to tell but where the “Green” arrow is pointing is a small foot bridge.  When I first saw this I thought it had been washed down stream.   However, after talking with the locals this very wide river bed was created years ago by a big mud slide.  The actual water flowing is very small when compared to the entire area.  The bridge is used to cross the river.  The yellow arrow points to a well defined foot path lined with stones.

Mt. Rainier inn is run by the park service.  It has recently been rebuilt after a fire.

Possible 2011 Trip

Let’s consider the East Coast Canoe and Kayak Festival in April of 2011.  Just so we have a list of options I have added a link to the site to our blog home page.  Look in the right navigation bar under “List of possible future trips.”  Looking at the site this could be a lot of fun.
